MM Protest Controversy
Berry good for Tom but no looking back.
It was a bold move for the stewards to encourage Tom Berry on DRIEFONTEIN to protest against Nash Rawiller on NO LOOKING BACK in the Magic Millions Classic.
The protest was ultimately upheld and the placings reversed making DRIEFONTEIN the winner.
Tom Berry had decided not to protest after a post race conference with Mrs. Waterhouse and Nash Rawiller.
Some people were mystified by that decision as the interference looked obvious.
The first horse over the line was backed like there was no settling.
Well done Gold Coast stewards for the action that they took.
Stewards later reported that if jockey Berry had not lodged a protest they would have.
They told Tom Berry that he had good grounds. The jockey to his credit then changed his mind and lodged the protest.
I always criticise officials if I think that they are wrong but in this case I am full of admiration for the stewards.
All of you that backed DRIEFONTEIN should send stewards a thank you card.
This is not the first time I have expressed confidence in that panel.
They are doing a truly wonderful job.
Nothing is getting past this team. Good on them. It is so good for racing.
