Are they taking the fun out of racing?

Have you read this important news from RISA?

John pictured at a presentation after winning at Randwick, he calls this fun.

The Personal Property Securities Act 2009 states that all racehorses in Australia must be registered with the Commonwealth Government from January 30 2012.

If you don't register your interest on the PPSA register whilst your horse is in someone else's care, a third party could register an interest over the horse and gain possession of it should the lessee or the carer strike financial trouble.

This is what I think of the imminent proposal to register all racehorses.

To be perfectly frank I do not like it at all.

What is this all about? Owning a horse is not like owning No 1 Martin place, or a parcel of BHP Biliton shares.

I remember why, when all those years ago I fell in love with racing. First of all I love horses. They are the most wonderful of creatures and most of mine have become great mates.

Secondly to use that old cliche racing was fun and full of great people. There was nobody looking over your shoulder to see if you found yourself a nice horse and steal it off you.

I used
to celebrate with my friends and collegues enjoying each other's success.

Who put the fun police in charge of racing?

  • Why are you not allowed to have a win and keep the money?
  • How can they allow this sort of big brother thing to go on?
  • What business is it of the tax man if you own a nice horse?
  • Do they ask you if you have a model plane or any other hobbies?

It is about time we let the people in charge of racing know what we think.

They seem to have no idea about the basic interests of genuine horse-loving racing people.
Perhaps the people running racing do not know much about it.
