First outright win as an owner wont be the last

BRISBANE accountant Craig Morrissey celebrated his first winner as an outright owner when former Victorian mare Beggin got up in a stirring finish at the Gold Coast on January 2, 2012.
In a desperate three-way finish to the Live Entertainment Every Saturday Class 1 Hcp (1100m), Beggin ($7) rattled home to tip out Excapishe ($2.40 fav) by a short head with a nose to Marculoo ($11) in third.
Morrissey has been involved in racing syndicates, but six months ago decided to go out on his own as an owner. He purchased Beggin from prominent owner Gerry Ryan, who races the outstanding stayer Americain.
Beggin won at her debut at Colac early last year for Gerry, but he did not think she would make the top grade and he was happy to sell her to me to race up here in Queensland, said Morrissey.
She is my first winner as an outright owner and it is a nice feeling.
Gerry gave her to John Brown to sell and he reasoned that Craig was the right owner for her as the Brisbane form suited her. He subsequently sealed the deal with John and the g mare is going from strength to strength.
Beggin, a four-year-old mare by Benicio, is trained at Eagle Farm by Bryan Dais.
I have several horses with Bryan who was recommended to me by Rob Heathcote, said Morrissey.
Bryan worked for Rob before going out on his own about three years ago.
